Obituary

Leona Rose Mullett passed away peacefully on February 4th, 2022 . Leona was born on April 28, 1937 to Howard and Loretta Artt in Detroit, Ml. She attended St. Leo's Catholic School where she met her future husband Robert David Mullett (Dave). Leona was married to Dave for 37 yrs until his passing in 1993. Dave and Leona lived in Garden City and raised their family in their house on Deering. There Leona explored numerous creative hobbies. She found her passion in ceramics and began Ceramics By Lee in her basement in 1970. She was a talented ceramics artist and won many awards at the state ceramics competitions. She taught hundreds of people to create beautiful ceramics over the 50+ yrs she was in business. After Dave Mullett's passing, she met and eventually married David Dempsey and moved to Brighton where she built a new home and expanded her ceramics studio. Leona continued to teach from her home and welcomed new students. She also opened her studio to the 4H club, children's parties, and special events. Her passion for people and creating beautiful objects produced so many long lasting relationships, some well over 50 yrs or more. She was a funny, warm and caring person and a loyal friend. She met monthly for "club" with her girlfriends from high school for almost 70 yrs. Her sense of humor, ability to laugh at herself and light-hearted nature endeared her to all she met.

Leona is preceded in death by husband Robert David Mullett, son John Mullett, husband David Dempsey, parents Loretta and Howard Artt, sisters Laura Hayes and Diane Barnes and brother, Donald Artt. She is survived by her children, Laurie Borg (Andy), Karen Smith (Mark), David Mullett (Jeff Preston), Sean Mullett (Tara), grandchildren, Christie Ingalls (Steve), Dan Borg, Corey Mullett, Jordan Mullett and Jenna Mullett, Joshua Preston, Jacob Preston, great grandchildren, Amber Larivee, Ashley Larivee, Allie Ingalls, Austin Ingalls, Kolsen Mullett and Samuel Preston.
