Lydia Maurer, of Livonia, Michigan left this life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of February 1, 2021 at Regency in Canton, Michigan. Cremation took place privately earlier this year.
In 1935, Lydia was born to Emil Ulrich and Johanna Christiana Baier in Nuremburg, Germany. Lydia was predeceased by her grandparents Michael and Klara Baier of Nuremburg, and her sister Margot (Willie) Elfreide Baier Bachmann.
Lydia met her husband, Gerald Maurer, we believe in Furt, Germany while he was stationed with the United States Army. She had a son, Norman, was one to one and a half. They married in Germany, we believe, said a sad goodbye to her family and she and Norman flew to London where Norman took his first steps according to her then flew to the United States to join Gerald and his family to live in Michigan. Her parents' in law were Francis and Irene Maurer who are also with the Lord. Her husband left with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 17, 1990 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan.
Lydia is survived by her children Norman Richard Maurer, Marilyn Clara Maurer (Chris) VanHoose, and Michael Ulrich (Sandra) Maurer, her grandchildren Christopher Michael (Kristen) VanHoose, Michael Joshua Maurer, Jessica Nicole Maurer (Ron and daughter, Raina) Brees, Zachary Maurer, and William Alexander VanHoose. Surviving family of Lydia is brother-in-law, Raymond (Gloria) Maurer, sisters-in-law, Donna Bair Fields, Diane Pernicano, Tina (the late Carl) Apsley and Pat (Ron) Gates. She had seven nephews: Raymond, David, Steve, Tony, Jimmy, Robin and Timm (Tracey). Lydia had eight nieces: Shelley (David), Christie, Kathy, Kimmy, Kelly, Kristie, Kary and the late Lindsey.
Lydia walked to Lincoln Park High School to learn how to drive so that she could work part time to help the family. She worked for Arlan's Department Store, Avon (Avon Presidents Club), and ARA Services for Metro Airport in Romulus. She also volunteered for Little League baseball at the concession stand along with Gerald being coach and then manager of his sons' baseball team. She worked a short time for Rick Amato Ministries stuffing envelopes where she came to know Jesus through his testimony and Norman's. Dr. Rick baptizied her though she was afraid of water.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 1pm at the Merriman Road Baptist Church, 2055 Merriman Road, Garden City (South of Ford Road). Condolences can be sent to John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home.
