IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maria Janina
Leskovitz
September 9, 1948 – November 11, 2024
Maria Janina Leskovitz was born September 9, 1948 in Perth, Scotland to the late Tadeusz
Chilkiewicz and Irene Chilkiewicz (nee Hobkirk). She passed unexpectedly November 11, 2024
after succumbing to a brief illness. When Maria was 5 years old she immigrated to the United
States on a ship with her parents. She grew up in Garden City, Michigan and in 1966, at the age
of 16 she met the love of her life Angelo Leskovitz, who she happily married in 1967. She and
Angelo spent the next 58 years enjoying their time together, never losing their love and
friendship they had for each other. Maria and Angelo took many trips to Las Vegas, rented
"Carol's cabin" up north many times, and went on numerous fishing and hunting trips over the
years. It was not uncommon for Maria to out fish the men! Maria was an avid reader and
managed The Hungry Eye bookstore and contributed to Romance Novel manuscripts. She was
a true Detroit sports fan; but she was passionate about her Red Wings following them since the
old Olympia days.
She was the proud mother of Mark and Scott who she loved dearly and cherished with all of her
heart. She was their field trip mom and the chauffeur for the neighborhood kids. She was a very
loving and doting grandmother to Lauren, Ryan, and Brooke who brought great joy to her life.
Maria spent a lot of time taking care of her grandchildren, she loved attending their school
activities, cheering them on as they played team sports, and never missed an opportunity to
spoil them. She was a great grandmother to Janina and Jack who she enjoyed spending time
with and watching them grow. And she had three bonus great grandchildren Lily and Clara
(late) Plemmons and Beatrix Ferguson who she welcomed into the family with open arms and a
loving heart.
Maria survived by her husband Angelo; her sons Mark (Deanne) and Scott; her grandchildren
Lauren (Paul) Plemmons, Ryan, and Brooke; Her great grandchildren Janina and Jack
Plemmons; her bonus grandchildren Lily and Beatrix; her brother Ted (Marian) Chilkiewicz, Tony
(Donna) Childs; Andrew (Brenda) Chilkiewicz; her sister-in-laws Loretta (late Eugene) Desance,
Elaine Bixler; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law Josephine Mostic, her sister-in-law
Joan (late Jim) Dittman, her brother-in-laws David (Mildred) Leskovitz, Nicholas Leskovitz, and
her nephews David Leskovitz, Donnie Bixler, and Steven Chilkiewicz.
Maria was a very loving, fun, generous, and selfless woman; Maria touched many lives and will
be missed greatly by those blessed to have known her.
