Marilyn Alma Turner (née Staffig), age 76, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, in Westland, Michigan. Born on July 24, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, Marilyn lived a life marked by warmth, dedication to family, and simple joys.
Marilyn was the beloved daughter of Alfonse and Justine (née Klopschinski) Staffig. She grew up in Garden City attending Garden City High School, where she began cultivating the passions that would bring her joy throughout her life - especially baking, reading, and childcare. Marilyn - affectionately known as MiMi -devoted her life to raising her own children and was renowned as the most loved and trusted babysitter. She took immense joy in watching young souls flourish and grow. Her love for her grandchildren was so profound that it defied description. Marilyn's favorite pastimes included reading romance novels and listening to music. She had a special fondness for Elvis and often shared cherished childhood memories related to his era. She also enjoyed a wide variety of country music. A passionate cook, Marilyn's homemade Christmas cookies were a beloved treat, and her delicious Polish dishes, made from scratch, were legendary. Among her culinary creations, homemade lasagna was a personal favorite. Marilyn was a generous soul, always ready to help those in need.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband, Matt Turner, with whom she shared many cherished years at their home in West Bloomfield. Together they built a blended family and cultivated lifelong friendships with neighbors. Marilyn is survived by her loving daughter Justine Markland, her son Scott Shuman, and her cherished grandson Derek Markland; stepson Matt Turner, his wife Jeannee, and her grandson Jack; and her devoted nephew Steve Broyles and his wife Cynthia; brother-in-law Tom Turner.
A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held at a later date. May fond memories of Marilyn bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
