IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Jean
Tatro
September 10, 1931 – April 4, 2024
Mary Jean was born in 1931 in Detroit, Michigan and lived her formative years during the Great Depression and World War II. She graduated from Dominican High School in 1949. She earned her bachelor's degree summa cum laude in accounting from the University of Detroit in 1953, graduating at the head of her class. She became a Certified Public Accountant working as an auditor at Ernst & Ernst, one of the largest accounting firms at the time. She married Edgar Tatro in 1956 and put her career on hold to start a family.
Through an abundance of love, thrift, and hard work, they put their four children through 12 years of Catholic school education, with each continuing their education and graduating from college. As the youngest of her children was entering high school, Mary Jean returned to her chosen profession and worked at a number of small accounting firms.
She was blessed with seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren to fill the void after becoming a widow in 1990. She did not travel extensively, but took advantage of opportunities to visit Italy, China, and Poland. .After retiring, she continued to work part time into her early seventies. She enjoyed reading, gardening, getting together with her high school and college friends, and spending time with her family. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner at St. Raphael Parish, now St. Thomas the Apostle. After retiring, she was happy to finally have time to devote time to the Rosary Altar Sodality. She was a great fan and trivia expert on the Golden Age of Hollywood, maintaining a remarkable recall of movies and stars to her final days.
Mary Jean will be missed by all who knew her.
