Obituary

Mildred Elizabeth Bishop was born October 8, 1945, she was known to those who loved her simply as "Sister".  Mildred was the only girl for the first 9 years of her life in a house full of rambunctious boys who lovingly called her "Sister".  To know her was to love her indeed.

After the death of our parents she embraced the role as the matriarch of our family.  She was the voice of reason, the one that you could always count on, the problem solver and our confidant.  That's not to say that you were not going to hear from someone else what you told her, but it meant that she was going to put her spin on it, so that it would promote a more productive outcome.  She was full of laughter and always had something to say.  Her joy was spending time with her nieces, nephews as well as her great nieces, nephews, cousins and church family.

Sister was blessed with a servant's heart.  She absolutely loved to give; whether it was a pound cake, banana nut bread or her famous banana pudding, you would not leave her presence without receiving something from her.  She was also blessed to have talented hands.  As a hairstylist, she loved seeing the joy on her clients face as she transformed them into their best selves.  She loved caring for her elderly clients and friends by transporting them to their doctor's appointments, grocery store or just spending quality time with them.

None the less, her life was noticeably changed after she became a true believer in Jesus Christ.  Upon accepting Jesus as her "Personal" Savior, she changed from the inside out.  Her love for God grew deeper and deeper and she began to display His (God's) character to an ever greater degree.  God's character was exemplified through her never ending kindness, concern, compassion and love for people.

As Christ demonstrated His love by dying on the cross (Roman 5:8), her life was a true testimony of this love she experienced by God.  Sister's life so often demonstrated this kind of love.  She gave sacrificially of her time, talents and treasures as well as her values of life.  Truly, if you have known "Sister" we are sure that you would have been blessed by her life and she would say:  "All glory to God".

She was preceded in death by her biological father: Julius Bishop, her parents; Rufus and Hilda Brinston, her brothers Melvin Bishop and Billie Brinston and her beloved son Marcus Bishop.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her brothers; Clark (Frances), June, Dan (Joyce), Earl (Brenda), David, and Terry (Terri). Her Sisters: Evon, Elaine (George), and Robin (Michael). Bonus Brother:  Bobby. Bonus Sisters: Mary, Barbara. Along with a host of: nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
