IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norman 'Ray'
Horn
October 1, 1934 – February 4, 2025
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. You have heard Me say to you, 'I am going away and coming back to you.' If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, 'I am going to the F ather,' for My Father is greater than I. (John 14:27-28)
Norman "Ray" Horn
Norman Lee Horn was born on October 1, 1934, in Atmore, Alabama, to Richard Lee Horn Sr. and Julie Ann Bonner. He was the youngest of their four children, the beloved and baby brother to Richard Lee Jr., Margie Lee, and Cecil Horn. As a child, everyone called him Ray. At an early age, Norman was baptized and gave his life to the Lord. He would pick up his nieces and nephews and take them to church. After graduating from high school, he went to college for three years, studying electrical engineering before joining the United States Air Forces in 1957, where he served our great nation until 1961 when he was honorably discharged. While in the Air Force, he obtained the rank of E3. He settled in New York and worked in the United States Postal Service.
During this time in New York, he met and married his wife, Laura Mae. Norman and Laura settled in Jamaica, Queens. After thirty years, Norman retired from the Postal Service. He is preceded in death by his wife, father, mother, and two brothers. Norman leaves behind his older sister Margie Lee Lewis and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Norman was a Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity member and a Mason with Prince Hall Grand Lodge of New York. Although Uncle Ray loved watching the New York Yankees and New York Mets, three of his favorite players were Willie Mays, Mobile's hometown, Hank Aaron, and Mets pitcher Dwight "Doc" Gooden. Just as the sun rose on February 4th, God called Ray home, saying, "Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord."
