IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul A.
Costea
August 2, 1930 – March 12, 2019
Paul was born during the Great Depression in Gary, Indiana to Romanian Immigrant parents who had previously arrived to the U.S. via Ellis Island. Seeking stable employment, his parents relocated the family to Dearborn, Michigan.
Ever an optimist, Paul didn't let the hardships of the Depression prevent him from pursuing higher education. After graduating with a BA from Wayne State University, he went on to teach physical education at his former elementary school, Salina, for 35 years. The athletic field at Salina was named in his honor when he retired.
Although he coached various sports during his career, football remained his passion. In retirement, Paul could be found in the bleachers of Fordson High School- his Alma mater- proudly cheering them on.
His students and athletes alike will forever remember the "Longhorns Salute"- his standard way of saying hello.
Beloved husband of 46 years to Silvia. Loving father to Christian and Alina (Matt) Behrens. Cherished grandfather of Bianca. Dear uncle of Adam Johnston and Joseph Johnston, Elizabeth Gheordunescu and George Gheordunescu. Son of the late Adam and Sava.
