Obituary

The youngest of four children, Peggy was born in Detroit, MI to the late Bernard and Ellen (Nellie) Welp.  She attended Visitation High School in Detroit and went on to graduate from the University of Detroit with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry.  It was there she met her husband, Walter.  Walt and Peggy were married for 54 years before his passing in 2005.  Peggy worked as a Chemist at Ethyl Corporation until 1953 when she left to have the first of six children.  While raising children, Peggy returned to school and received a Master's Degree in Library Science from Wayne State University in Detroit.  As the children got older, she returned to work for about 10 years in the Library at Riverside High School in Dearborn Heights before retiring.

Peggy continued to live in the same home in Dearborn Heights, MI for almost 50 years before moving to the Oakmont senior community in Northville where she resided for the last 5 years.

She was an active member of the St. Sabina Parish and School in Dearborn Heights for many years.  She volunteered her time to the Girl Scouts with a special focus on cookie drives, and worked on local and national elections on election days for over 20 years.

Peggy was an avid card player, golfer and tennis player.  She mastered every card game ever invented, and may have invented one or two along the way.  She was also an avid reader, could solve any crossword puzzle and win any board game. Not a family gathering could happen without a card game to finish the evening; something she greatly enjoyed with her grandchildren every chance she got. She found time to join multiple golf leagues, bridge clubs, and stock clubs. Peggy led a busy and full life, even finding time for an occasional trip to the local casinos.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Walt.  She is survived by her six children Cathy, (Joe) Maes, Jeanne (George) Reiser, Bob (Carol), Tom (Kelly), Mary Ellen (David) Hunzicker & Bill (Kathye).  She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Erica, Christopher, Kristen, Nicole (Landyn), Zach, Alex, Morgan, Noah, Stephanie, Billy, and Grace.

Peggy was loved and will be deeply missed by family and the multitude of friends she made throughout her life.
