IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Phillip Lawrence
Brown
April 7, 1952 – August 11, 2022
Phillip Lawrence Brown was born at Herman Kiefer Hospital in Detroit, Michigan on April 7, 1952 to his mother, Phyllistine Carter (deceased) and father, James Brown (deceased). From birth, Phillip defied many odds against him despite the words and expectations of many doctors. Phillip was not expected to live beyond his 18 th birthday, but his spirit, determination and zest for life persevered until he reached his 70 th birthday. Despite his many challenges, he never feared, and would partake in whatever events the situation called for. Phillip, with the full support of his family, 1972 received his high school diploma from Oak Park High School in Oak Park Michigan.
Phillip loved all sorts of music and video games extensively, a quality that he shared with his brother, Gregory (Greg) Taylor. Phillip loved going every year to jazz concerts and amusement parks with his brother, Greg. Phillip connected with the smooth music of jazz and the thrills and excitement of the amusement park rides. Also, Phillip was often taken on trips to Florida by his brother, Greg. Phillip met Marcy Caplan while attending middle school where their friendship eventually evolved in later years into a loving longtime relationship as life partners. At that point, Phillip and his partner, Marcy would now accompany Gregory to those same jazz concerts and amusement parks each year. Phillip eventually and proudly gained employment by obtaining his first job at Target in Dearborn where the staff easily embraced him as he brought joy and laughter while considered an excellent worker.
He was surrounded, supported and embraced by many family members and friends throughout his life. He had the undying and never-ending support of his loving mother – Phyllistine Williams, 2 nd father – Matthew Williams, and brothers – Gregory Taylor and William (Eugene) Brown, who are now-departed. He also had the unwavering love and support of his departed aunts – Mattie Carter, Willa Crutchfield, Cora Perdue, Rhoda (Rikki) Carter and Dorothy (Vikki) Carter, his departed uncles – Sydney Carter, John Carter and Harvey Carter, as well as many cousins and nephews. He shared a special bond with each one of them.
Phillip also bonded, with staff members such as Alicia Mitchell, Mabel Bounty and others from the Hancock Residential Center, as well as his fellow residents. He loved everyone at Hancock, and they loved him back, always going above and beyond to support him. Phillip's guardian, Marcella Harris and the guardianship agency, Faith Connections embraced him and guided him through difficult times. Bev and Len Radjewski, also known to Phillip as "Mom & Pop" loved and supported him and Marcy unconditionally, and continued that support after Marcy's transition, as if he was one of their own.
Phillip has left us here on earth to become one of God's angels and join his personal "Band of Angels," his family of: Phyllistine Williams (mother), James Brown (father), Matthew Williams (2 nd father), Gregory Taylor (brother), aunts – Mattie Carter, Willa Crutchfield, Cora Perdue, Rhoda Carter, Dorothy Carter and uncles – Sydney Carter, John Carter and Harvey Carter, and finally, his life partner Marcy Caplan who have preceded him in death. Phillip leaves behind a host of cousins, nephews, and great nephews.
Phillip is now resting in peace with God and his family.
