IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Phyllis
Kinnell
April 25, 1930 – January 28, 2022
Phyllis was born to Russel and Edna VanBuhler and grew up in Belleville, MI. She has 9 siblings and a very large extended family who continue to gather each year for a family reunion, COVID being the only interruption in over 60 years.
In May of 1950, Phyllis married her late husband William Kinnell. The two of them carried on the tradition and raised a large family. Together they attended St. Sebastain church in Dearborn Heights, MI where they were members since they married, for 65 years. They said the rosary together every night (possibly praying for well behaved kids) and worked at the church festival for many years. Her faith was very deep, and she instilled her love of church and God in her children. Mary was especially close to her heart, and was even praying the rosary 2 days before her death.
Phyllis proudly bragged about working at the family ice cream/soda fountain as a girl, Van's Ice Cream, before her marriage.
She loved to bowl and belonged to many leagues over the years but found the most joy on a mixed league with her husband and siblings.
She played the game of Bunko for many years with good friends and her sisters.Euchre and Pinochle were card games she enjoyed with family.
Phyllis was most proud, however, of her children - 7 born to her (Judy, Mike, Diana, Susan, Beverly, Doug, David) and one very special bonus daughter in Angel - and her brood of 19 grand kids and 17 great grand kids.
Oh, the memories this family has created. Son-in-law Joe recalls walking up the driveway, past the kitchen window, where he saw Phyllis. He stopped at the window to chat and she squirt him with the rinse hose and laughed out loud.Joe said that from that day on he realized his dear, sweet, angel-like mother-in-law had a bit of the devil in her.
Caring for her, since ours fathers death in 2009 has been an honor that we all shared, including our spouses, most especially daughter-in-law Joan. Our memories of a life well lived will be with us always.
