Obituary

Reynold Joseph Mirabitur passed away on December 16, 2020 at the age of 85. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret (McDonough) Mirabitur, and his two sons and daughters-in-law – Reynold (Elizabeth) Mirabitur and Steven (Janis) Mirabitur – in addition to his brother Edward Mirabitur and sisters-in-law Mary Ann Mirabitur, Judy Mirabitur, and Theresa Gretch. Reynold was the proud nannu of Andi Mirabitur, Alexandra Ames (Trevor Ames), Erica Mirabitur (Rachel Weinheimer), and Steven Mirabitur. He was predeceased by his brothers Joseph (Rita), Victor (Margaret), and Thomas; his sisters Mary (Vincent) and Betty (Richard); and his brother-in-law and best friend Eugene Gretch.

Reynold was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 4, 1935 to Emmanuel and Esther Mirabitur. The sixth of seven children, Reynold grew up in Corktown. He served in the Navy during the Korean War, which allowed him to visit his parents' country of origin: Malta. The experience of visiting Malta remained one of his most cherished memories. Reynold retired from General Motors in 1992. Reynold was a member of St. Raphael (now St. Thomas the Apostle) in Garden City. In his spare time, Reynold enjoyed working on projects, golfing, watching football, and spending time with his granddog Boomer.

In light of COVID, a small celebration of life will take place at Santeiu and Son Funeral Home in Garden City with immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
