Robert Francis Fortier, born May 22, 1948, to Dorothy and Raymond Fortier, lived a life, full of joy, love, and unwavering spirit. Born with disabilities, Bob never let anything hold him back. He spent many happy days at his grandmother's cottage in Canada, playing in the sand and enjoying boat rides with his cousin Gary, though he never quite warmed to the water or wearing shorts! A huge sports fan, Bob was devoted to the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings, rarely missing a game. Bob's pride in his nephews Craig and Jeff's football careers at Catholic Central was unmatched, Bob was always there, cheering them on. As the family grew, Bob gained brothers and sisters-in-law who absolutely adored him. Whether it was tossing the ball around or just enjoying his company, they made sure Bob was always part of the action. Bob truly cherished his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and his joy in their accomplishments was endless. Bob's love for sports was rivaled only by his love for soap operas, and he could rattle off player statistics and storylines with ease. He never had a harsh word for anyone, always finding joy in the little things, especially when the ladies gave him some attention. Bob was the best son, brother, uncle, and friend anyone could ask for. Bob cared for his mother in her later years without complaint, showing true dedication. Bob taught us all the values of compassion, understanding, and kindness, especially toward those with disabilities. Bob's legacy of love, laughter, and acceptance will be carried forward by all who knew him. We will deeply miss our Special Big Brother, but Bob's memory and the lessons he shared will stay with us forever.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 7, 2024, at Hackett-Metcalf Funeral Home, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Hedwig Cemetery.
