Obituary

Rocco Crudo, age 91, fell asleep in Jesus on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 (the day of Guardian Angels) at his winter home in Naples, Florida. Beloved husband of 64 years to the late Anna Emily Crudo (nee Centi). Rocco is survived by his children, Antonetta (James) Marano, Danny Joseph Crudo, Linda (Chris) Sutherland; grandson, Michael Marano; brother, Giuseppe Crudo; sister, Spasaminna (Natale) Licari; three generations of nieces and nephews that span three countries; and hundreds of friends, many of which he called family.Proceeding him in death was his brother Antonio Crudo.

Rocco was born on August 3, 1930 to Francesco and Antonia (nee D'Agostino) in the town of Rosarno in the Calabria region of southern Italy. He immigrated to Canada with his brothers at age 20, settling in Windsor, Ontario. Rocco quickly learned the English language and assimilated into the western culture.

In April of 1955, he married Anna Emily Centi who was also an immigrant from the central Abruzzo region of Italy. Soon after their marriage, he was drafted by the United States Army and proudly served for 2 years. During his time in the Army, he worked hard to receive his Graduate Education Degree. After returning from the Army, Rocco and Anna settled in Dearborn Heights, Michigan where they lived, laughed, and loved for 40 years. Together they had three children and became active members of Saint Sebastian Catholic Church and School. Rocco retired from General Motors where he worked as a General Foreman for over 25 years.

Rocco and Anna became snowbirds in the mid 1980's traveling to Naples, Florida during the winter months. He kept busy in Florida as he continued to work and was the originating "resident" in charge of Hot Dog Day and Pasta dinners at the Fairways condominium community, relinquishing that responsibility just a few years ago.Rocco loved to travel, play cards, and make pizzelle cookies. He would make hundreds of cookies in one day to share with family and friends. He often won the annual bocce ball tournament at the Fairways on the same court that he was instrumental in designing and building.

Rocco maintained respect for his Italian heritage and the values that his parents and family taught him, all the while still pursuing the American dream.

Rocco's funeral will be on Monday, February 28, 2022. He will be Instate at 10am at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 3965 Merrick Street, Dearborn Heights, MI 48125 until the time of Mass at 10:30am.
