Age 89, of Garden City, Michigan went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 19, 2015.
Samuel was born on November 15, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the fourth of six children born to Robert and Barbara Emma (Norton) Lawson. He spent most of his childhood in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and graduated from Saulte St. Marie High School.
Samuel is survived by his beloved wife, Marcia Lawson (Keyes) whom he met in 1954. They were married on July 16, 1955. Samuel and Marcia had four children Marcy Dilbeck (Dennis), Julie Nye, Lori Dahlberg (Larry) and Mary Spada (Robert). He was a loving father and a wonderful grandfather to nine: Joshua, Ann Marie, Matthew, Jerry, Michael, Gabriel, Lindsay, Samuel and Katie. And he adored being a great grandfather to six: Liam, Tyler, Joel, Naomi, Gideon and Amelia.
As a young man Samuel worked at Willow Run for Stinson Aircraft before joining the Merchant Marines in 1944 at the age of 18. After serving two years he transferred to the U. S. Air Force where he served four years (1948 – 1952) serving in combat in both WWII and Korea.
Upon returning home he worked many years as a truck driver, first for Dearborn Machinery Movers and then Rheem Manufacturing. His final years of employment were spent working at Flint Ink before finally retiring at the age of 64.
Samuel was preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy Gilroy and Wilma Geiselman and brother Ralph Lawson. He is survived by his two brothers, Norton Lawson and Robert Lawson.
Visitation Sunday, November 22nd from 2-8 pm at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home. Services will be held at Faith Baptist Church in Dearborn Heights on Monday, November 23rd at 11:00 am with viewing one hour before at 10:00 am. Officiating services will be Pastor Barry Bedwell with graveside service to follow at Glen Eden Cemetery located at 35667 W. Eight Mile Road, Livonia, MI 48152.
