Obituary

Samuel M Russo, age 90, passed away June 4, 2012.

Beloved husband of Vera Irene Russo, Loving father of James (Christine)Russo and Louisa (Gregory Kremer) Russo. Treasuered Grandfather of Matthew Graulich, Raina Jones, Jonna Graulich, Carl Graulich, Nicholas (Alyson) Russo, Vincent Russo, Stacy (Matthew Johnsen) Kremer and Anne Kremer. Sam leaves 6 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Born May 5, 1922 in Watertown New York to Grace (Gingo) Russo and Ralph Russo, Sam joined the Army Air Corp after graduation from Niagara High School, serving as a weather man in Scotland and England during World War II.

After his return he married Vera Zinkievich in 1945, then returned to school attending classes at SUNY, then graduating magna cum laude from Niagara University. In his early carreer with Bell Aircraft and Moore Business Forms, Sam established himself as a pioneer in the computer industry. By 1963, he moved his young family to Detroit where he worked for the the Ford Motor company and then for a number of start-up businesses. These experiences evolved into a long time career in personnel placement, a position he found very rewarding.

Both in Niagara Falls and still when he arrived in Detroit he was very active in the Boy Scouts of America. Sam was known among his neighbors on Sherbourne Drive as the man who could fix anything and was well loved for his generous spirit. Sam also gave freely of his time and talents to his parish, from early years he worked with the vocation program in the diocese and in his later years was a very successful member of the Divine Child Parish Development Program.

Memorial gathering will be from 5-8pm on Wednesday, June 6, at the John N Santeiu Funeral home 1139 Inkster Rd. between Ford Rd & Cherry Hill, Garden City, MI

Memorial assembly for Sam will be Thursday 9am until the 9:30 funeral mass at Divine Child Parish in Dearborn Heights.
