Obituary

Age 91

Beloved wife of the late Pietro. Loving mom of Suzanne (Roger), Bob (Mary), Gina (Mike), Chris (Ed), Marcus (the late Nancy) and the late Clay, and Helen. Cherished grandma of Jonathon, Alexis, Anthony, Mike, Timothy, and Tony. Adored great grandma of Tyler, Kyle, Liam, Ellie, Annie, Henry, Theo, Mack, and Gabe. Dear sister of Kurt (Jackie), and Janice. She was very dearly loved and will be deeply missed by many family members and friends.

Sharlet was an ever inquisitive and constantly evolving artist. She began her studies at the Center for Creative Studies and Wayne State University in the 1960's and blossomed from there. She originally worked in oils and later, developed expertise in such mediums as wood block prints, felting and encaustic.

After she met the love of her life Pete and they married in 1979, they were a creative powerhouse for nearly four decades until his death in 2016. Pete was an actor and a poet and Sharlet was the consummate costume designer and artist. Together they worked with the Red Door Players, Birmingham Village Players, and Bayview Theater productions, among many others.

Sharlet and Pete produced several volumes of poetry, art and whimsey throughout the years. They were honored   by the Downriver Council for the Arts for their contributions to the arts. In 2017, Sharlet published Sharlet's Ride, a Celebration of Art. Recently, she completed her artistic memoir "Mutsy."

Sharlet showcased her art works at many galleries throughout the Metro Detroit area.  Most recently, she curated the exhibit "Generations Part 2, Side by Side" at the Color Ink Studio and Gallery in Hazel Park in 2019 and presented "Gene Pool" with her son Christopher at the Downriver Council for the Arts in May 2023.

In 2017, Wayne State University established the Pietro and Sharlet DiGiorgio Endowed Scholarship at its College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts in their honor.

Memorial Visitation Saturday, 2 pm until the 3 pm Memorial Service at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home.

Sharlet would smile brightly (with a twinkle in her eye) by any donations made in her name to either the Downriver Council for the Arts (downriverarts.org) or by check to the Pietro and Sharlet DiGiorgio Endowed Scholarship at WSU's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts (Office of Gift Processing, Wayne State University, 5700 Cass Avenue, #1200, Detroit, MI 48202; fund #060931).
