IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sharon Dee
Mckaig
September 11, 1941 – May 25, 2020
Sharon Dee McKaig (nee: Mathes) of Novi was born on September 11, 1941 in Wayne, Michigan to her loving mother Victoria Zimostrad. Sharon died May 25, 2020 at a very young 78 years of age. Victoria divorced Sharon's birth father Steve Oryszczuk in 1946 and Victoria married Raymond Mathes who would go on to be a loving and caring father for her all the rest of his life. In later years after Sharon's divorce from Gerald McKaig in 1979 and Victoria's passing in 1986, Sharon and Raymond became the best of friends and lived together until "Grandpa's" peaceful death in 2001. Sharon was the loving and beloved mother to Michael (Kristen) (b. 1964), Anne Marie (David) (b. 1965), Mark (Barbara) (b. 1968), Warren (Kaaren) (b. 1969), and Louie (Mary) (b. 1971); loving and beloved grandmother to Sarah (Brian) (b. 1990), Joseph (Jackie) (b. 1993), Jordan (b. 1997), Lindsey (b. 1999), Samson (b. 2000), Patrick (b. 2001), Ashley (b. 2002), Xavier (b. 2002), Molly (b. 2004), Oscar (b. 2004), Abby (b. 2006). Maggie (b. 2006), Isabel (b. 2007), Ava (b. 2007), Kate (b. 2009), and Kelly (b. 2009); and the loving and beloved great-grandmother to Tyler (b. 2018); loving and beloved sister of the late Rene Allison, the late Gary Mathes, and the late Louie Mathes. Sharon is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. It has been said of Sharon that when it came to her children and their families, she would never ask what you were doing, but how you were doing. It's true, Sharon lived to always put on a happy face for her children, their spouses, her grandchildren, and her newly arrived great-grandson. Other than family, Sharon's true love was all music (but especially Johnny Mathis and Patsy Cline!) and dancing. If music was on, then she was dancing to it, simple as that. Special memories include all of Sharon's stickers for the cards and letters she would always be writing and mailing to family and friends (inevitably signing them "2 good 2 be 4 gotten" and "XOXOXO" and "S.W.A.K."); the little gift bags "to take home to the kids" every time you visited filled with coloring pages, markers, candy, random holiday items from any season, costume jewelry, and religious themed greeting cards. It should also be noted that right up until the end Sharon had simply the softest, most beautiful complexion you'd ever see and/or feel - and man was she ever so proud of her "strawberry blond" hair! Sharon was a faithful and practicing Catholic; it was the central concept of her perspective on life, and it was perhaps second only to her relationship with her children as to the identity she had formed for herself on this earth. In closing, Sharon was the strongest person many of us ever knew in that she never let anything stop her from trying to be happy. In fact, she wanted everyone around her to be happy, and she wasn't afraid to stand up if someone was trying to steal her or anyone else's joy. Sharon didn't worry about things that didn't matter; instead, she focused her entire life on making sure her family knew how much she loved them. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27 at 12 noon at St. Simon and Jude Church, 32500 Palmer Road, in Westland, all are welcome. The burial service to which all are welcome will begin at 1 p.m. at Cadillac Memorial Gardens West Cemetery in Westland followed by a safety-first, open-air gathering at Edward H. Hines Park.
