IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley E.
Becker
August 20, 1936 – December 24, 2024
Shirley Elizabeth Becker, 88, of Dearborn, Michigan, passed away on December 24, 2024.
Shirley was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 20, 1936, to Rudolph and Elise Meier. Shirley graduated from Fordson High School in 1954 and graduated from the University of Detroit with a degree in Dental Hygiene in 1956. She worked in multiple dentist offices during her career. After retirement, she was the principal of the Atonement Day School until it closed.
Shirley's Christian faith always played a significant role in her life. She attended Atonement Lutheran Church her entire life, being baptized, confirmed, and married there. She enjoyed being active in her church, serving on the Ladies Aid and various other boards/committees, and leading/teaching music in the Christian Day School, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. Outside of her local congregation, she volunteered with several Christian organizations, including PABLO International and Most Ministries. Shirley was also instrumental in initiating the Monday morning Lutheran service at Allegria Village once she moved there.
Shirley was a talented musician, playing several instruments including the violin, piano, and dulcimer. She was gifted with the ability to play by ear, so it was not uncommon to see her leading a sing-along.
Shirley was very adventurous well into her 70's and convinced Fred to participate in downhill skiing, motorcycle riding, whitewater rafting, and hiking.
Family was very important to Shirley. As a parent, she got involved in her children's many school and youth group activities and attended a variety of sporting events. In her later years, she took pleasure in watching her grandchildren participate in sports, music, and theater. Shirley and Fred enjoyed traveling and camping with family and friends. Shirley was proud of her Swiss heritage and able to visit Switzerland 7 times.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Fred and her parents.
Shirley is survived by her 3 children, Thomas (Wendy) Becker, Charles (Kathleen) Becker, and Heidi (Larry) Castle; 7 grandchildren, Daniel (Erin) Becker, Katherine (Logan) Praay, Caitlin Castle, Ryan Becker, Bridget Becker, Conner Castle, and Kyle Becker; 4 great-grandchildren, Layney, Asa, Noelle, and Eden; sister, Doris Shell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
