IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley
Berent
August 4, 1945 – August 12, 2024
Shirley Berent made her grand entrance into this world back on August 4th, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the 4th of what would eventually be five children to Irvin and Margaret Simsick. As a young girl growing up with three older siblings she was not shy to let them know who was in charge especially when their working parents were not around. That responsible, assuming control persona would be her calling card and serve her well when navigating the more challenging times in life.
As a young woman she began a career in banking working at Detroit Bank & Trust helping customers with a friendly smile and using her computational skills to assist patrons with their financial needs, but God had a different career plan for Shirley.
She met the love of her life, Clarence, in her teenage years and as with many young romances it had its ebbs and flows which made their love for each other that much more enduring.
She married Clarence in December of 1967, but they spent the first year of their marriage apart due to Clarence's deployment to Vietnam. However, when they reunited for her husband's short respite that culminated in their first child, Renee, to be born.
Eventually they had another child, Randy, and settled down to raise a family in Westland, Michigan near familiar surroundings, family and friends of which they lived a long life together rich with memories that could fill chapters within a novel, but that book shall remain tucked in the minds and hearts of those who experienced them with her.
Beloved wife of Clarence for 56 years. Loving mom of Renee, and Randy (Sondra). Cherished grandma of Bri and Heather. Dear sister of Ron Simsick, Irvin Simsick, and the late Judi Foley, and Rose Simms. She was very dearly loved and will be deeply missed by many family members and friends.
