Shirley Ann Boron, age 92, passed away peacefully February 11, 2026. She was a resident of Westland, Michigan since 1957.
She was born on June 27, 1933, in Dearborn, Michigan, to Stella (Leffler) and Lawrence Donnelly. She was one of thirteen children. She graduated from Fordson High School and spent several years working in her father’s convenience store, where she met the love of her life, Gerald “Jerry” Boron. Together they raised five boys and shared 67 years of marriage until Jerry’s passing in 2024.
Shirley took great pride in maintaining a spotless home, inside and out. She approached everything with care and intention; whether staying up all night baking for the holidays, adding smiley faces to her sons lunch bags, or drawing elaborate illustrations inside greeting cards. Always upbeat, she could often be heard humming or singing as she went about her day.
Jerry and Shirley spent many summers building their vacation home up north near Alba, Michigan. She wasn’t a stranger to hard work and many times would keep going even after everyone else had stopped.
Shirley was deeply devoted to her family, and her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. She rarely missed a weekend Mass. She had a pure and gentle heart and never spoke an unkind word about anyone. Always looking for the good in every situation, she was the warm, welcoming presence in any room. She encouraged everyone around her; truly the cheerleader for all. It was common to hear her say, “You can do anything you put your mind to” or “Don’t give up.”
She loved watching Tigers baseball with her husband, Jerry; she also adored the Irish and had a passion for all things Notre Dame. She enjoyed the Olympics, Jeopardy, bingo, crossword puzzles, and the occasional trip to the casino to play the slot machines.
Shirley lived her life with unwavering principles, dignity, and honesty. Doing the right thing wasn’t a choice for her, it was simply who she was. She had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor, always ready with one of her signature “Mom jokes.”
She is survived by her children Dennis, Kenneth (Linde), Steven, and Rick (Bonnie); her grandchildren Crystal, Sandra, Carson, Tiffany, Amber, Alexis, and Brooke; her sisters Loretta (Jim) and Sharon; and eight great‑grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, her son Douglas, her grandson Kyle, her parents, three sisters, and seven brothers.
We will forever be grateful for her positivity, guidance, and uplifting spirit. She was as close to an angel on earth as one could be; spreading love, kindness, and encouragement to everyone she met. She cherished her family, and left a lasting impression on all who knew her. May she rest in peace, and may her memory and the lessons she lived by continue to inspire us.
Memorial Visitation on Saturday, February 28th, 2026 from 1pm until the 6pm Memorial Service at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home, 1139 N. Inkster Road, Garden City (between Ford Road and Cherry Hill).
