IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Joy
Gumina
March 3, 1925 – March 28, 2022
Born 1925 in west Michigan died on March 28, 2022. Wife of loving husband Charlie C.E.G. for 69 years. Mother of 13 children: Daniel, Catherine (Ed Haidar), John, Michael (Trudy), Thomas, George, Sara, and Peter. She is predeceased by Frances, Philip (Susan), Lawrence, Teresa, and David. Grandmother of eight: Anne (Hank) and Julia (Ted), Angela and Gregory, Steven and Justin (Taylor), Maria and Jennifer. Great grandmother of five: Jillian and Ellise, Jack and Charlie, and Joselyn. Sister of Janet (Ray Gordon), Nancy (Ed Bremmer), Camilla (John Teusink), Fred (Carolee) Gunnell, John (Myda) Gunnell, and Tom Gunnell. Fond aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and a dear friend to many.
Shirley was a literal "child of nature," happiest outdoors and shared her knowledge and love of nature with all. She was a mycologist, a special education teacher, a published poet, a volunteer for children's causes and a lifelong peace activist. She wrote literally hundreds of letters to the United States Congress and Michigan legislature for the voiceless. She will be greatly missed.
