IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley M.
Laski
July 7, 1927 – April 27, 2020
Shirley Marie Laski (Putin) entered her Savior's arms on 4-27-20 while surrounded by 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. Born 7-7-27 in Detroit, MI, she was preceded in death by Leonard Laski (1-6-77), her husband of 30 years, and her eldest child and loving daughter, Jackie Laski (10-17-14). Her parents, Valmer and Exilda Putin (Ayotte), and siblings Valmer Putin, Gerald Putin, Marge Zarbaugh, and Wallace Putin also greeted her when she entered Heaven's glory. She is survived by her children Janine (Mickey) McDonough, Randy (Gail) Laski, Sheri (Don) Claerhout, Susie (Ed) Mulka, Chris (Patti) Laski, and Gary (Susan) Laski, as well as her grandchildren Ryan (Betsy) Laski, Amber (Adam) Milius, Haleyanna, Shawn (Gwen) McDonough, Chelsea (Ben) DePriest, Garret Laski, Brandon Laski, and Allison Laski. Her legacy of love, faith, and hope will be passed down to her Great-Grandchildren Alex, Olivia, Beau, Lukey, Ryleigh, Brennan, Lilah, Claire, Savannah, Ashton, and Evanne by all who knew her. Her furry companion, Lucy the Lou, already misses her daily mealtimes and playing ball with her best friend.
Shirley was employed at the Penobscot Building in Downtown Detroit as an elevator operator during her 20's. She enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the city, dressing up for work, and chatting with her riders. It was also in Detroit that she would "meet at the clock" for lunch with her husband, Leonard, who was a Mobil Oil analyst. She was a member of the alter society at Mother of Our Savior parish as well as a dedicated lunch room mother and festival volunteer. Shirley and her family became members of St. Mel's parish in Dearborn Heights in 1970 and she remained active in church activities there until its closure in 2014. She taught preschool religious education from 1975-1976 and continued her work as a festival volunteer.
Shirley resided with her daughter and son-in-law (Susie and Ed Mulka) in Taylor during her latter years. She was able to continue cooking favorite family recipes, play with her great-grandchildren, and dance to Sinatra and Glenn Miller with her loved ones until her final days. Her family's inspiration, she leaves behind a legacy of faith in Jesus Christ, hope and resilience when life's challenges arise, and a firm belief that a scoop of ice cream is to be eaten daily, except on Sundays when 2 scoops are required. Her quick wit, ability to laugh at herself, and strong character will be forever cherished.
Although she loved gardening and flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Capuchin Soup Kitchen in her honor.
