January 1, 1927 – July 17, 2024
Age 97 ½
Beloved wife, mother, cousin, and aunt.
Sophia was born in Shczurowyczy, Ukraine and came to Canada as a young child. She studied and taught nursing at Hotel Dieu School of Nursing (Windsor) and was an RN. Sophia met and married her husband Stephen A. in Windsor, Ontario and moved to the United States in 1966 where she raised their children, Ronald and Deanna.
She was an active member of the Ukrainian Graduates of Windsor/Detroit and the Ukrainian Women's League Chapter 58 and the Regional Counsel. She had a kind and loving heart, a good sense of humor and was devoted to her family.
Sophia is predeceased by her husband Stephen A., and her son Stephen R., as well as her parents and cousins. She is survived by her daughter Deanna and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
Visitation Sunday 3 pm – 7 pm with a 6 pm Panachyda at St. Mary, the Protectress Cathedral in Southfield. In state Monday 10 am until the 11 am Funeral Service at St. Mary, the Protectress Cathedral. Burial will take place Tuesday 11:00 am at Windsor Memorial Gardens 1100 Division Rd. Windsor, Ontario N8W 1Z6.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, or St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral Windsor, Ontario, or UCARE, Inc. (Ukrainian Children's Aid and Relief Effort, Inc.)
