IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sybil Lee
Dowidait
May 22, 1946 – February 27, 2021
Sybil Lee Dowidait, beloved mother of Roger (Heidi) Dowidait, Michael Dowidait, and Ami (Jerry) Seal, and loving nana of Maizi, Zane and Cassidy Seal, died peacefully at home in Riverview, Michigan at the age of 74.
Sybil was born on May 22, 1946 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee to Alma and Henry Martin. She lived happily in Dickson, TN since 1990 with her son Michael and beloved husband Everett Parchman, who preceded her in death in 2014.
Sybil moved to Detroit, Michigan as a child and lived in the Herman Gardens housing projects with her parents and siblings, Charlene, Linda, Jacqueline, James, David, and Tony Martin. As a teenager, she attended Chadsey High School, earning a cosmetology license through a co-op program. At 17 years old, Sybil married her first husband, Roger Lee Dowidait of Dearborn, Michigan. Together they had three children (Roger, Michael and Ami), and fostered over a dozen children.
Sybil spent many years in Garden City, Michigan being a homemaker, hairdresser, and devoted caregiver for her son Michael. One of her greatest joys in life, though, was becoming a Nana. Sybil cherished spending time with her grandchildren, who she was blessed to see grow into adulthood.
Throughout her life, Sybil was known for having a big heart and helped others in need until she physically no longer couldn't. When her children were young, Sybil volunteered her time as a cub scout den mother and classroom aide, and would babysit for family and friends without hesitation. She became like a second mother to her kids' closest friends, and enjoyed having them all over to visit.
In her prime, Sybil enjoyed gardening, cooking, crafting, quilting, shopping, traveling, and collecting antiques. She also enjoyed going to restaurants with family and friends, and her love of strawberry Belgian waffles from Big Boy was incentive for her return to Michigan. She spent her final years happily in Riverview, Michigan in close proximity to Big Boy, and in the loving care of her family.
