Thomas Joseph Yeip passed away May 10 at the age of 77.
Tom was a lifelong resident of Detroit. His service in the United States Air Force included assignments in Libya and Dominican Republic during the Dominican Civil War. He went on to serve the City of Detroit as a police officer until retiring in 1993. During that time he earned several departmental citations, and in 1986 he was honored as district officer of the year by the Detroit Police Officers Association in recognition of life-saving actions. He was also an avid golfer and woodworker, building furniture, artwork and keepsakes for family and friends.
Tom is survived by his sons, Thomas and Randy, and his sister, Mary deManigold, as well as a niece and several nephews. He was predeceased by parents Lawrence and Marie, and brothers Robert, William and James.
The family will hold a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 21, at St. Kateri Catholic Church in Dearborn. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to the church. The service will also be live streamed at https://stkateridearborn.org. A private burial will be held at Assumption Grotto Church in Detroit.
