age 84
Beloved husband of Marion for 64 years. Loving father of Mari-Lynne (Gerald) Moroni, Lisa (Scott) Russell, Susan Hanson and Katrina (Greg) Dumont. Dearest grandfather of Vincent Verna, Matthew Verna, Quinn Russell, Zandra Russell and Hanson Russell. Beloved brother of Sandra. Preceded in death by his brother Edward 'Bud' Hanson.
Son of Victor and Antonia Hanson, Vic was born in Idaho and moved to Michigan when he was three years old. He was a rambunctious and beloved big brother to Bud and Sandra and had great stories of growing up in pre-WWII era Detroit. He graduated from Cass Tech and attended Wayne State University. He was a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean War, earning a Bronze Star for his service. Vic enjoyed his career as a chemist at Ajem Laboratories, and as an Air Quality Consultant for Swanson Environmental and Clayton Environmental Consultants until his retirement in 1997.
Vic met the love of his life, Marion Haworth, when he was 16 years old while delivering the Detroit Free Press. They were married in 1952 and were blessed with four daughters and five grandchildren during their 64 years of marriage. Vic and Marion have lived in their Westland home since 1957, becoming fixtures of the neighborhood.
Vic was an adventurer who loved to travel the United States and was able to visit many different countries for his work. He could often be found wearing headphones listening to WJR or WRCJ, watching British mystery TV shows, and cursing at his computer (often at the same time). He was an avid fan of the Tigers, Red Wings, NASCAR races, and even those lousy Lions. Vic enjoyed his retirement staying active in the garden with his amazing green thumb, and doing projects that utilized his woodworking and handyman skills. He was the number one Mr. Fix-it for his family, frequently partnering with Murphy (of Murphy's Law) who often took the blame when things did not go right. He was a creative, kind, loving, and supportive man with a smile and laugh that would brighten a room. Vic will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016 from 1-4 pm at The Dearborn Inn, Dearborn, Michigan.
