Age 91.

Formerly of Warren. Last surviving son of the late Lawrence and Wanda. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth 'Betty'. Loving father of Linda (Gary) Nieckarz. Cherished grandfather of Heather (Michael) Rochon and Megan (Jarod) Micallef. Dearest great grandfather of Thomas Rochon, Ethan and Kathryn Micallef. Brother of the late Edmund, Eleanor Czarnecki, Florian, Leonard, Harry, Irene Ancypa, Lawrence, Arthur and Raymond. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

As a child, Wally liked hiking at Belle Isle and going to the zoo there. After graduating from Pershing High School in Detroit in 1943, Walter was drafted to serve in WWII, flying 35 bombing missions over Germany in B-17 Bombers as an aerial gunner. He was decorated with an Air Medal and 5 Oak Leaf Clusters. He later worked for Chrysler as a Tool & Die craftsman for over 20 years.

During their child raising years, the Walkowski's would take the Windsor Tunnel to Lake St. Clair where they had a cottage. The cottage was on the Canadian side of the lake, which Wally says has more fish.

Visitation Sunday 2-8pm with an Evening Service at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home, 1139 N. Inkster Road, Garden City. (Between Ford Road and Cherry Hill.) In state Monday 9:30am until the 10am Mass at Church of the Divine Child, 1055 N. Silvery Lane at Wilson in Dearborn.
