Wendelin T. (Windy) Hughes, 91 of Dearborn Heights passed away on July 29, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Mary with whom they shared over 58 years of marriage together.
Windy graduated from Lowrey High School in 1949 where he dated his future wife, Mary. While there he was the senior class president and lettered in Football, Swimming and Track. Upon graduation, he attended Dearborn Junior College then enlisted in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. Following an honorable discharge, he attended Lawrence Institute of Technology and received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. After graduating, Windy went to work for the Detroit Edison Company and retired after 32 years of service.
Windy was active in the community as a Boy Scout Leader and Little League Baseball and Football Coach. He was especially active in the Garden City Presbyterian Church, a proud member of the Church Choir for over 64 years and held various Church administrative positions.
Windy is survived by sons, John (Josephine) and Robert (Aba); grandchildren Dan (Lyn), Tom (Krystle), Jennifer (Sebastian), and Paul; great grandchildren Michael, Daniel, Marianna, Eoua and Isabelle.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life is scheduled to be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the Garden City Presbyterian Church, 1841 Middlebelt Road, Garden City, Michigan 48135. Visitation at 10:00 A.M. with Service at 11:00 A.M.
Due to the Corona Virus the church is requiring masks to be worn.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Garden City Presbyterian Church.
